    James "Fred" Critten

    August 10, 1919 - October 4, 2013

    James F. “Fred” Critten, formally of St. Marys, passed away, Friday, October 4, 2013, 8:15 PM, at his residence in Lexington, KY. He was born August 10, 1919 in St. Marys, OH, the son of Fredrick and Louise (Beckman) Critten, both preceded him in death. On September 18, 1942 he married Elizabeth “Betty” Bernhold and she preceded him in death on January 6, 1996. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy Archuleta, Chatham, IL and Connie Ecabert, Lexington, KY; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gene Archuleta; a brother Harry Critten; two sisters, Dorothy Schwartz and Florence Meyers. Fred was a 1937 graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he received a bronze star. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 42 years of service. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, life member of the St. Marys VFW Post 9289 and a former member of the K of C. Visitation hours will be from 5 - 8 on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in the Cisco Funeral Home of St. Marys, located at 1175 E. Greenville Rd. To conclude the visitation a prayer service will be held at 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday in the Holy Rosary Church, St. Marys. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys; where military honors will be given by the St. Marys VFW Post 9289. Memorial contribution can be made to the church.
