    William Allen Young

    May 21, 1930 - July 2, 2015

    William Allen Young, 85, formerly of St. Marys, OH, passed on peacefully to his Heavenly home at 8:20 p.m. CST on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Belmont Village at West University, Houston, TX. He was born May 21, 1930, in St. Marys, OH, to William Raymond and Emma Marie (Steva) Young. He is survived by a brother, Paul R. Young (Deb Joseph) of Madison, WI; and eight nieces and nephews, Lisa (Tom) McIlwain, Oregon City, OR; Neal Young, Riverside, CA; Dave (Melissa) Young, Concord, NC; Dean (Angie) Young, Aurora, IL; Paul (Cindy) Young, Atlanta, GA; Bill Young, St. Marys, OH; Mary Beth (Steve) Mielke, St. Marys, OH; and Amy (Andrew) Menker, St. Marys, OH. He is also survived by numerous great nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Philip Young; a sister-in-law, Patricia Young; and Bill Young's wife, Cara Young. Allen was a 1948 graduate of Memorial High School. He went on to attend Miami University where he received his bachelor's degree and then went on to The Ohio State University, where he graduated with a PhD in Chemistry. Allen began his career in the oil and gas industry, first with Humble Oil in Tulsa, OK and then in Houston for many years as a Senior Geochemist for Exxon Mobil. He was a long time faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Houston, TX. Allen enjoyed his bi-annual trips back home to St. Marys to visit with old friends and of course family. Allen’s favorite hobbies included attending baseball games and geology seminars at Rice University, reading, and genealogy. Allen’s legacy is one of faith, family, knowledge, patience, humility, and generosity. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, OH. Contributions can be made to Wayne Street United Methodist Church in St. Marys. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys.
