Barbara (Horine) Murphy, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 6:50 p.m. at Divine of Shane Hill in Rockford, Ohio.
She was born on June 19, 1933, in Union City, Indiana, to Ralph and Zella (Weaver) Horine. Barbara was a graduate of Randolph County High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State University and later received her master’s degree in education from Fort Wayne College.
Barbara married Emmett Murphy on June 11, 1955, and together they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage. Emmett preceded her in death on February 13, 2025.
Barbara is survived by her children, Linda Murphy of Kettering, Ohio; Bob (Bridgid) Murphy of Jamestown, North Carolina; and Rick (Beth) Murphy of Chattanooga, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Barbara dedicated many years of her life to educating children as a kindergarten teacher with Celina City Schools. She was a caring and dedicated teacher who touched the lives of many children and families throughout her years in the classroom.
Barbara and Emmett shared a love of dancing, especially polka dancing. The two enjoyed dancing together regularly, often going out to polka dance as many as three times a week. They also shared a love of travel. Barbara often spoke about growing up in a small town and knowing there was a whole world out there that she wanted to see—and she made it her goal to experience as much of it as she could. Her travels took her to many places, including New Mexico, Alaska, and throughout much of Europe, with visits to countries such as Italy, Ireland, and Austria. One of her favorite travel memories was visiting the cemetery featured in The Sound of Music while in Austria.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at North Grove Cemetery in Celina, Ohio.
