Obituary

Douglas (Doug) Edward Cook, aged 74, passed away peacefully at home on July 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 6, 1952. He graduated from Celina High School in 1970 and retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. On June 8, 1991, he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Alice Shiverdecker-Cook, with whom he shared 35 beautiful years of marriage.

Left to cherish his memory is his adoring wife, Alice; stepson, Cory Shiverdecker; stepdaughter, Katie (Brian) Dabbelt; and cherished grandchildren, Harrison Douglas Dabbelt and Annabelle MaryEllen Dabbelt, to whom he was the most wonderful and devoted grandfather. Also surviving are his sister, Sherry Reineke, nephew Troy Reineke; sister-in-law, Sue Cook, niece Amanda Cook; brother-in-law, Luke (Mary Kay) Fullenkamp; sister-in-laws, Joyce (Bill) Brandewie; Amy (Steve) Wade and Darlene (Ben) Basone, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant and Elizabeth (Wehrkamp) Cook; brother, Steve Cook; Aloys and Emily (Reichert) Fullenkamp; Jack and Mary (Minckley) Shiverdecker; grandparents, Fred and Cecilia Wehrkamp, and Grant and Lena Cook, Sr.

A talented tinkerer, Doug could fix and build anything, often creating his own solutions when he couldn't find what he needed. He enjoyed building remote-control airplanes and served as treasurer of the Celina Flying Sportsmen club. He took great pride in restoring classic cars, a passion he particularly enjoyed sharing with his brother, Steve, while working on a Model T together. He was an avid motorsports fan who traveled to NASCAR races and frequented Eldora Speedway.

Throughout his life, he held many titles—son, brother, husband, father, uncle, friend—but the name that meant the most to him, the one he wore with the greatest pride and biggest smile, was Papa. It wasn’t just a name; it was who he was: loving, steady, protective, and always there when we needed him most.

He was the source of strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. His gentle spirit, warm smile, and steady presence made everyone around him feel safe and cared for. Through life’s joys and challenges, he taught us the importance of kindness, hard work, and family-not only through his words, but through the way he lived every day.

Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, they are also filled with gratitude. We are grateful for every story he shared, every lesson he taught, every laugh we enjoyed together, and every moment we were blessed to call him ours.

Friends and family may call Cisco Funeral Home in Celina on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a memorial service to follow immediately at 5:00 PM.
