Obituary

Elaine Mary Rupert of St. Marys, and formerly of Lima, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 11:20 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Vancrest Nursing Home in St. Marys.

She was born Mary Elaine Rampe on June 3, 1928, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to Edward and Emma (Bockrath) Rampe, who preceded her in death.

On October 30, 1954, she married Benjamin Rupert, who preceded her in death on December 20, 2003. Elaine graduated from Columbus Grove High School and later moved to Lima, where she worked at the Leader Department Store. She was also an active member of the Community Theatre of Amil Tellers of Dramatics, Inc. in Lima from 1946 to 1954. She devoted her life to being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Elaine cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she enjoyed reading and knitting. She was especially known for her delicious mashed potatoes and chocolate chip cookies.

Elaine was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #323 Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as Second Vice President and Child Welfare Chairman.

She is survived by her children: Benjamin (Leslie Sudman) Rupert of St. Marys, Anita Rupert of Celina, Rosemary Rupert of Worthington, and Paul (Dianna) Rupert of North Manchester, Indiana, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Rebecca Metzger, Esther Omlor, Frances Potts, Rita Trask, and Catherine Hutchinson; her brothers, Paul Rampe, Ray Rampe, and Bob Rampe; her daughter, Elizabeth Weitzel; her granddaughter, Lauren Rupert; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home, 1175 E. Greenville Road, St. Marys, Ohio. Friends may also call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys, with Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp officiating.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Columbus Grove, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Marys Public Library, EverHeart Hospice (Coldwater), or EWTN Catholic Network.
