The Rev. Dr. Evelyn Procter Meredith, age 88, of St. Marys, formerly of Newton Falls, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Vancrest of St. Marys.

Evelyn was born on December 16, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late James Charles Procter and Mary Almeda Craig. Faith was an important part of Evelyn’s life from the very beginning. She was baptized by her grandfather, the Rev. Walter G. Procter, on June 5, 1938, at Wallace Street Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis.

Evelyn graduated from Warren Central High School in 1956. She married Robert Eugene Meredith on November 28, 1958, in Hanover, IN. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and service.

Evelyn’s calling to ministry led her to Hanover College, where she graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion and Philosophy. She continued her theological education at Christian Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity degree in 1973. On November 17, 1974, she was ordained as a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis.

Her commitment to learning, and to her calling, continued throughout her ministry. In 1984, she earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary. Evelyn served faithfully through the Whitewater Valley, Cincinnati, Maumee Valley, and Northern New York Presbyteries. She retired from active ministry in 2003, after many years of dedicated service to the church and the communities she served.

Evelyn loved to tend to her garden and watch the birds that congregated in it. She was also gifted with sewing, needlepoint, and knitting. She crafted practical and beautiful items for family, friends, and those in need. Evelyn also danced beautifully as a former member of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of Cincinnati’s Demonstration Team.

Evelyn’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert E. Meredith; her daughters, Mairi B. (Francis Ndar Onduso) Meredith and the Rev. Nan (Kevin) Clancy, all of St. Marys; and her grandchildren, David R. M. Clancy of St. Marys, Master Sergeant Aidan T. M. (Tabitha) Clancy (USAF) of Texas, and Fiona C. M. (Robert Kinnison) Clancy of Celina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elizabeth Procter Isenberg Capel, as well as many beloved cousins and friends.

Throughout her life, Evelyn shared her faith, wisdom, compassion, and love with those around her. Her legacy of ministry and service will live on through the many lives she touched, and especially through the family she cherished so deeply.

Memorial services will be held at Celina First Presbyterian Church, 1107 N. Main St., Celina, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. Nan Clancy officiating and The Rev. Dr. Matt Meinke co-officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
