Obituary

Kevin M. McKirnan, age 74, of North Manchester, Indiana, and formerly of Celina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 5, 2026, at Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester.

He was born September 17, 1951, in Celina, to the late Daniel and Mary Jo (Sommers) McKirnan. On August 4, 1984, he married Cheryl D. Bolinger-McKirnan, who survives at their residence in North Manchester.

Also surviving are his sisters, Maureen (Mike) Hausfeld and Jane (Lee) Riesen, both of Celina; sister-in-law, Sue McKirnan, Celina; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Judy) Bolinger, Eureka, Missouri, and Jerry (Mary) Bolinger, North Manchester; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, including Margo (Jeremy) Sharp, Loveland, Ohio; Lilli Hausfeld, Celina; Dak (Miranda) Helentjaris, Volente, Texas; Julie (Ron) Smith, Morrow, Ohio; Lucy (Nick) Bachman, Lebanon, Ohio; Miranda McKirnan, Denver, Colorado; Chelsea McKirnan (Kevin) Quinn, Fort Thomas, Kentucky; Andrew (Sarah) Bolinger, North Manchester, Indiana; Ashton (Ally) Bolinger, Westfield, Indiana; Jennifer (Matt) Slaven, Ballwin, Missouri; and Jeremy (Alison) Bolinger, Seabrook, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Frank McKirnan.

Kevin was a 1969 graduate of Immaculate Conception Catholic High School. He continued his education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. In 1976, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Kevin devoted much of his professional life to serving the community of Celina and Mercer County. He served as the City Law Director of Celina from 1977 until 2012, dedicating 34 years to the city and its residents. Following his tenure as Law Director, Kevin continued his commitment to public service, serving one term as Mercer County Clerk of Courts.

He was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina.

Kevin had a deep passion for history and was an avid history buff. He was heavily involved in living history and historical reenactments, participating with the Quiateon Brigade, the 9th Virginia Regiment, and the 1st American Regiment. He also enjoyed participating in early 20th-century German reenactments. His love of history was more than a hobby—it was a way for him to connect with the past and share that passion with others.

A Funeral Liturgy will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the funeral home, with Fr. Prashanth Bandanadham officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Interment will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Celina, where Kevin will be laid to rest beside his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Endowment Fund and/or the Mercer County Historical Society.

The McKirnan family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, care, and support shown to Kevin and his family during this difficult time.
