Marjorie C. Daugherty, age 99, of St. Marys, Ohio, and longtime resident of Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 20, 1926, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, to the late John Leo and Carolyn (Christler) Elsass. On May 25, 1947, Marjorie married Robert “Bob” Daugherty, who preceded her in death.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Gary (Diana) Daugherty of Wayne Lakes and Melanie (Dick) Goldsmith of Bellefontaine; daughters-in-law, Charlotte Daugherty of St. Marys and Rita Daugherty of St. Marys; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren with two more expected; her brother, Richard Elsass of New Knoxville; sisters-in-law, Betty Elsass of Buchanan, Michigan, and Jan Elsass of Celina; brother-in-law, Bill Clark of Lima; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Ronald and Michael Daugherty; her siblings, Howard (Alice) Elsass, Bernice (Orlo) Whetstone, Warren Elsass, Donald (Donna) Elsass, Gerald (Joann) Elsass, Rev. Ned Elsass, Bonita (Lloyd) Hughes, Ted Elsass, Shirley (James) Lageman, and Sharon Clark; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mary Elsass, Jane (Nelson) Eichenauer, and Earl (Janice) Daugherty.
Marjorie was a 1944 graduate of Buckland High School in Buckland, Ohio. She retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in St. Marys in 1985 after 33 years of dedicated service. Alongside her husband, she also owned and operated the Bay View Restaurant in Montezuma from 1972 to 1982.
After retirement, Marjorie made her home in the UP of Michigan for many years, where she enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, dancing, and spending time outdoors. She loved sewing and took great pride in embroidering Christmas stockings for her family. Singing in the church choir, spending time with her family, maintaining her independence, and living out her strong faith in God were central to her life.
Marjorie was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school during the 1960s.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home of St. Marys, located at 1175 E. Greenville Road.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 14127 Moulton–New Knoxville Road, Wapakoneta, Ohio 45895, with Pastor Melodi Hagen officiating. Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
