Phil LaRue, age 84, of Celina, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at the Gardens of Celina following a short but courageous battle with leukemia, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born on September 27, 1941, to the late Clarence “Shorty” and Beatrice (Huffman) LaRue. On June 26, 1960, he married the love of his life, Sharon Hines, at Wabash United Church of Christ. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Phil was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis LaRue.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Sharon; his children, Becky (Frank) Dues, Randy (Tami Pease) LaRue, Jenny (Tyron) Bussanich, and Kristy (Tim) Brooks; ten grandchildren, Lisa (Derk) Horn, Scott (Trish) Dues, Jason (Danielle) Dues, Thomas (Kara) Dues, Christopher (Kelsey) Dues, Larissa (Zach) Albert, Kahl (Abby) LaRue, Savannah Bussanich, Adelyn Bussanich, and Wesley Brooks; and 26 great-grandchildren, with one great-grandchild preceding him in death.

Phil’s strong work ethic began early in life. At just nine years old, he started mowing yards in Wabash, discovering both a love for hard work and the peacefulness of being outdoors—something he continued to enjoy throughout his life. He later worked at Wabash Telephone Company before taking a leap of faith in 1968 by starting Wabash Garage, Inc. in a Quonset hut on the family farm with one part-time helper. Through determination, integrity, and hands-on leadership, the business grew steadily, eventually becoming incorporated and an official Mack Service Dealer. After 47 years, Wabash Garage had grown to employ more than 72 people.

Phil also helped found a similar truck repair business in Kentucky, further extending his influence in the industry. He served as President of TARA, an international organization specializing in truck, frame, and alignment services. His expertise was widely respected, and he gave presentations to members of Lloyd’s of London and other truck and insurance companies.

A dedicated community member, Phil served as Master of Junior Unity Grange and was a member of Unity Grange for over 60 years, receiving his 7th Degree.

Outside of work, Phil enjoyed traveling and visited most of the 50 states, along with several other countries. He loved country music and was proud to have personally met many of his favorite stars. Despite his many accomplishments, some of his favorite moments were the simplest ones—especially mowing the yard, which he often described as peaceful.

Phil’s legacy is one of humility, leadership, and unwavering integrity. He would never ask anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself. He instilled that same work ethic and strong family values in his four children. Throughout his career, he mentored and trained many young men who went on to start businesses of their own, leaving a lasting impact far beyond his own company.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina. Casual attire is welcome for those attending the visitation.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Grand Lake United Methodist Church, with Rev. Matt Overman officiating. Visitation will also take place at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Private graveside services will be held at State Line Cemetery on the Ohio – Indiana border.
