Richard E. “Dick” Godwin, age 88, of Mendon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Vancrest of St. Marys.
Dick was born on February 1, 1938, in Portland, Indiana, to the late Clark H. and Gertrude I. (Huffman) Godwin. On July 1, 1977, he married Mary Jane (Kinzer) Godwin, who survives at their home in Mendon. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Clay) Godwin, on August 16, 1963, and by their son, Mike Godwin.
Survivors include Mary’s daughters, Donna J. (Walt Kahle) Martello of Wapakoneta and Judy L. Stevens of Westminster, Colorado; grandchildren, Tony (Laura) Godwin of Monroe, Indiana, Mandy (Cary) Hart of Celina, Justin (Brandi Younker) Godwin of Coldwater, Corey (Michelle Barhorst) Godwin of Fort Loramie, Heather Wellbaum of Cridersville, Leyton (Michelle Brackett) Wellbaum of Indianapolis, and Nicole (Matthew) Duster of Lafayette, Colorado; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Godwin, and six brothers, Joe, Bob, Clarence, Harry, Ralph, and Jim Godwin.
Dick retired from Huffy Bicycle Company in Celina after 48 years of dedicated service, where he helped design and build prototype bicycles. He was a proud member of the Celina Moose Lodge and greatly enjoyed bowling with his wife Mary. Dick and Mary loved traveling together in their RV, and he especially enjoyed fishing, tinkering around the house, working with metal, and fixing or building just about anything he could get his hands on.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Celina Moose Lodge, 1120 E. Market Street, Celina, Ohio 45822. A private family burial will take place at Mendon Cemetery at a later date.
