Obituary

Sherry L. Tobin, age 88, of Celina, passed away peacefully at 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Mercer Health in Coldwater.

She was born on April 14, 1938, in Muskegon, Michigan, to the late Arthur N. and Leoda L. (Lake) Bates. On July 14, 1979, she married Edward Tobin, who preceded her in death on May 10, 2014. Prior to her marriage to Edward, Sherry was married to George Swygart for 20 years.

She is survived by her children: David (Jean) Swygart of North Carolina, Pam Haffey of Celina, Randy Swygart of Mendon, Susan (Jeff) Roehm of Willshire, and Tara Mallory of Akron. She is also survived by several stepchildren, along with many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Bonnie Sipe, Arthur R. “Randy” Bates, and Shermon L. Bates; sons-in-law, Larry D. Haffey and Thomas A. Mallory; and her grandson, Isaac T. Mallory.

Sherry graduated from Muskegon High School in 1956. She worked for 26 years at Shane’s Village and was a faithful member of the Assemblies of God Church for 36 years. She was also an active member of The Gideons International since 1981.

Her faith was the center of her life. Sherry gave her life to Christ at the age of 21 and devoted herself to reading and studying the Bible, as well as sharing and teaching God’s Word with others. She enjoyed reading and paint-by-number artwork and found great joy in talking about her faith with those around her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home, with Ron Beougher officiating. Family and friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Burge Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Edward, and grandson, Isaac T. Mallory.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International and Daily Bread.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Cisco Funeral Homes of Celina and St. Marys for their compassionate care and support during this difficult time. Condolences may be shared with the family at Cisco Funeral Home or on the funeral home’s Facebook page
