Obituary

Vera Irene Coon, 97, of Celina, passed away at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, with her family by her side at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys, Ohio.

She was born on November 11, 1928, in Marion County, Ohio, to Clinton Ray and Varence Lucille (Oborn) Conklin. She married Thomas B. Coon, who preceded her in death on April 22, 1990.

She is survived by her two sons, Thomas (Kathy) Coon of Celina and Ronald Coon of Celina; three grandchildren, Derek (Natalie) Coon of Summerville, South Carolina, Ashley (Bryan) Robbins of Lexington, Kentucky, and Jenna (Daniel) Vail of Lake Worth, Florida; step-grandsons, Timothy (Tracy) Shingler of San Antonio, Texas, and Todd (Claire) Shingler of Chicago, Illinois; four step grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Larry, Cecil, Warren, and Ralph Conklin; two sisters, Ellen Troutman and Charlene Miers Mitchell; her stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Sondra (Larry) Shingler; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Corrigan, Jean Conklin, Catherine Conklin, and Doris Conklin; brothers-in-law, Paul Miers, Walter Corrigan, and Lee Troutman; and her grandson, Aaron Coon.

Vera was a 1946 graduate of Waldo High School in Waldo, Ohio. She retired from Reynolds & Reynolds in Celina in 1993 after many years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Celina Moose Lodge and the Celina Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Family was the center of Vera’s life. She found great happiness in caring for those she loved, whether through a home cooked meal, a holiday gathering, or simply spending time together. She was known for planning family celebrations months in advance and making sure everyone felt welcomed and loved. Vera enjoyed traveling, playing cards and board games, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and most of all dancing. She loved dancing so much in her later years that she couldn’t wait for the weekend to hit the dance floor with her friends. Today, we imagine she has found the best table by a dance floor, and is saving a seat for each of us until we meet again.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.

A private family service will be held for the immediate family at Marion Cemetery in Marion, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the ARC of Mercer County, 4980 Mud Pike Road, Celina, Ohio 45822 or CHP Adult Day Services, 816 Pro Drive, Celina, Ohio 45822.
